From farm to oven: the naturally grown to the naturally leavened

As members of the Southern Ocean County Chamber of Commerce, Jay and Tina recently attended an interesting event: a bread-making demonstration.  Chris Sanchez, co-owner of Black Eyed Susans, hosted the event at his restaurant and showed us how to make naturally leavened bread from the restaurant’s own fermented starter. We reaped the benefits of the bread demo and his culinary expertise as he and chef partner Ashley Pellagrino prepared a delicious meal featuring their homemade bread and fresh homemade pasta, a new addition to their menu. Many of the ingredients on their menu are sourced from local farms, distributors and fishermen. Like us, they believe the best food is grown locally with respect for the environment. Their bread is available for purchase from the restaurant.
